LO1 P4 - Key personnel

Roles

Purpose of Role

Whos involved

Positives and negatives on why I’ve chose them

Director

The purpose of a director is to lead the cast members from start to finish by focusing on bringing the script to life. They are the person who works closely with the cast members whilst in the filmmaking process

Milhan Guclugenc

I've chosen myself to be the director due to me having good ideas and leadership skills. I’m able to work excellently in groups and interpret ideas efficiently.

Producer

The purpose of a producer is essentially to oversee and manage various different aspects of production such as financing, hiring people, coming up with film locations that fit the budget, etc

Milhan Guclugenc

I’ve chosen myself to be the producer due to me having a clear idea on how to manage each scene, understanding how to do it financially. I also already have all the areas needed to be filmed in, in my head.

Presentor

The purpose of a presenter is to ensure that the flow of the radio programme is on par with the expectation that the audience want

Milhan Guclugenc

I’ve chosen myself as the presenter since I'm the one who came up with the idea and will know the radio programme inside out. Nobody will know the scene as well as I do.

Voice actors/ Voice overs

The purpose of the voice actors is to give life to the script. This means that the voice actors chosen will closely resemble the character that they play since it will help them naturally act it better

Meryiem, Faz

Meryiem and Faz are good actors seen in previous projects they’re contributed to. However they may not be able to play the roles as often since they have their own projects to do.

LO1 P4 - Risk assessment

A: HAZARD

B: DEGREE OF RISK

(Refer to Risk Matrix)

C: PREVENTIVE MEASURES

D: IF ACCIDENT OCCURS?

Nature of hazard

person(s) at risk

Severity

Likelihood

Risk Rating

Measures in place aimed at reducing risk to minimum level?

Further necessary measures, involving whom and by when?

  • Spilling water onto the iMacs which could cause an electric shock

M.G

Severe

Likely

Extreme 20

  • Making sure that the water being used by the cast isn’t next to the iMacs.

  • Not having wires visible near the iMac for it to cause an electrical shock

  • Calling a teacher if the accident does occur to ensure the safety of the casting crew to see if there are any injuries

  • Getting an I.T technician to come look at the damage and potentially fix it

  • Using the computers for too long, it can give you eye strain (headaches, burn eyes)

M.G

Major

Almost Certain

Extreme 25

  • Limiting amount of time with breaks in between, that cast members can use the computer for in one sitting

  • Blue light blocking glasses next to the iMacs for the cast members

  • If any of the cast members have any issues revolving around this, they can take a break/rest from the computer

  • Cast members are able to call the schools nurse if the pain is severe and they need assistance

  • Electronics could potentially overheat and it can be dangerous

M.G

Major

Moderate

Medium 9

  • The surroundings of the room is kept cool and not too humid

  • Moving to another computer after a certain amount of time

  • The I.T technician can be called for them to check the condition of the electronic

  • Asking the teacher/technician if there is another iMac that can be used

  • Tripping over the wires from the different peripherals being used

M.G

Minor

Moderate

Medium 6

  • Having neat and tidy cable management so that they are not in the way

  • Have peripherals that are wireless to prevent amount of wires

  • Making sure that the teacher in the classroom is informed of what has happened and resolve the situation

  • Having the nurse of the school come to the classroom and check the injury of the person

  • Hardware failure happening to the computer resulting in data loss

M.G

Major

Unlikely

Medium 8

  • Having a back-up computer on standby

  • Using a USB stick when transferring files as it cannot corrupt the file

  • Asking the I.T technician if there is any possible way to retrieve the loss data

  • Getting the casting members to re-do the data that they have lost with a stable computer

LO1, P2 - floye sounds

In the video above I had to create sound effect sounds with 3 different mics and see which ones worked the best so that in the future for my radio programme I will use the mic that worked the best. The mics that I have used are sony voice recorder, phone recorder and boom mic. Each of them has their positives and negatives. To start off with the sony voice recorder, this is a recorder where you press the button and it starts recording. The recorder was good for one specific sound seen in the fire crackling sound. It didn’t have any bleed noises from outside. However one negative with the microphone is that it doesn’t pick up sounds from further away seen in the music classroom.

Secondly with the boom mic it was a good recorder for all sounds, capturing all the sounds. The boom mic is a mic that you connect onto the camera which stays. For example, for the last sound at the restaurant it was able to capture the sound from far away and still keep the volume equal to other sounds from the restaurant. Furthermore, the sound quality from the boom mic is extremely smooth and crisp compared to the other 3 mics and allowed me to capture realistic ambient sound. On the other hand, I didn’t notice any negatives of the boom mic except for the fact that the camera needs to be carried around alongside it. This makes it very uncomfortable to carry out for long periods of time as someone will need to be holding it in the air.

Lastly, the final mic that I used was my phone's built-in microphone to record the surroundings. The positive of the phone's microphone is that it was extremely easy to use as it’s quick and easy to access since I have it with me. I simply just had to take out my phone and go onto the camera app and click the record button. It had decent audio quality and was able to capture the necessary sounds that I wanted it to. However, on the other side the negatives of the phone's built-in microphone was that it wasn’t able to capture crisp audio of what I wanted it to. Even whilst going closer to the specific sound that I wanted to capture, it was struggling to pick up the sound.

Overall, the mic that I would use for my radio program would be the second mic which is the boom mic. The reason for this is because it performed the best out of the 3 other microphones that I had tested and it provides me with the necessary audio quality that I am after when finally shooting my radio programme. It will make the overall quality of the programme much better and allow for the audience to enjoy the film a lot more.

LO2 M2 - Explain the processes and technologies involved in producing a radio broadcast unit 14

Explain the processes and the technologies involved in producing a radio broadcast

What is a Digital Cartwall?

A Digital Cartwall is an instant audio player with multiple squares. Each square has a sound of your choice assigned to it. You get to customise the squares to your liking (may be that you won't get confused). When you click on the square the audio of your choice begins playing.

In the image provided above a Digital Cartwall is suitable for the studio computer since you can access the Digital Cartwall and put the audio on each channels on the mixer. When clicking on one Cartwall it is taken to channel on the mixer creating audio. With Digital Cartwalls you're able to create different 'walls' with different sounds and save them under different names.

With a Digital Cartwall it is easy to start and stop each audio with just one click. However sometimes it depends on the technology some Cartwalls may have a stop key on the side. Some would either stop when you press the correct button or just fade out. A Digital Cartwall Is good since you can change the audio which is good for studios. They're able to play intro music, sound effects or any music that'll go over a speech.

What is a Playlist?

A playlist is a collection of sounds (mainly music) that will be played. These songs are specially chosen depending on the station it is shown at whether it is popular or a specific genre (Hiphop). This helps the Radio Station have a smooth broadcast. Radio stations have a specific playlist they run on for that day. For an example BBC Radio 4 may have specific songs for winter time (Christmas songs) and summer time (upbeat).

What is a digital playout system?

Radio stations all around the world use a digital layout system since it makes creating a broadcast easier since a digital layout system is a computer used to record, keep and play all audio content for your radio station. This is great for regional, local and national radio stations since it has an automated layout system for the choice of each radio station. It's affordable since it has many different aspects build in, whereas you don't have to buy separate materials for those aspects. With automated playout systems it makes life easier for the presenters since they don't have to search for the content that is going to come up next with each CD instead it's built in on the computer. However since everything is mainly technical now people are unable to have the on-air experience.
