launch date

The launch date of my radio programme will be during the main holiday which currently is the summer holidays. I have picked the launching time to be during this holiday because I will be able to get the most exposure to my target audience who are mainly children progressing from primary school to secondary or currently in primary/secondary school. It’s because many children get given a phone when transferring from primary to secondary due to the fact that parents will want to know the children's whereabouts, etc as well as it keeping them safe in case of an emergency. This further correlates to the fact that my entire purpose of this radio programme is to inform the audience about the benefits and negatives of social media as well as entertaining them.

It’s also a really great time to do this as the holidays allow for the children to have a lot of spare time as well as the parents who can guide them further with their own experiences and learn at the same time. It’s the parents job to look after their children and what they do online as they are at quite a naive stage of their lives and they need that adult guidance. The radio programme will give the children and parents a greater understanding of what social media is all about whilst learning things to steer away from and things to prosper from the use of social media. I will be showing my radio programme at the times of 4:00pm - 5:00pm as these are the peak times at which children and parents would be watching television. This is perfect as it correlates to the time at which parents usually come back from work and also children coming back from school as parents may not be on holiday from their jobs whilst their kids might.

Scenario Provided

Explanation of the scenario

All three of the ideas that I have come up with in my mind map match with the scenario that has been provided to me by Chadwell Heath Radio. My ideas are able to create 5 minute or possibly less radio dramas that inform, educate as well as entertain a family friendly audience. This perfectly meets the scenario that has been given to me as it includes everything listed. To further reinforce the brief, my second idea is about a girl that is learning how to use social media and her path on how she manages to use it as well as figuring out the dangers of it, this flawlessly fits the point in the scenario about “entertaining a family about the dangers and benefits of social media.”

Analysis of drama radios

1st Drama Radio:

My first radio drama that I am going to analyse is The Man Who Fell To Earth. This radio drama adaptation of the classic novel delves into themes of alienation, identity, and the human condition. Thomas Newton, an alien with a mission to save both his dying planet and humanity, grapples with the complexities of human emotions and relationships. As he navigates his plan to use advanced technology for financial gain and salvation, he finds himself drawn to two fellow outsiders, Betty-Jo and Nathan Bryce, who offer him companionship and understanding. However, Newton's existential doubts and the looming presence of government surveillance add layers of tension to the narrative. Through Newton's journey, the drama explores profound questions about the nature of humanity and the consequences of technological advancement. There were many codes that the radio programme used, some of them are various sound effects, dialogue, music, etc and this helps to make the drama be actually dramatic as it builds suspense within the audience listening. Furthermore, the sound effects used within the radio drama were used in a way that it sounded realistic and allowed to paint a picture in the audience's head of what is currently happening in that scene.

2nd Drama Radio:

This radio drama opens with a poignant scene set in the sterile environment of a child Intensive Care Unit, where the mechanical sounds of life support machines punctuate the sombre atmosphere. The programme utilised the machine sounds effectively as it builds tension as well as the heart beat sound building suspense as to whether the baby in the scene is going to make it. A woman, burdened with the weight of her child's condition, rushes out to attend a court hearing, clinging to a glimmer of hope represented by her child's faint smile. As the narrative shifts to the High Court, tensions rise between the estranged parents, emphasising the emotional strain of their situation. Against the backdrop of legal proceedings presided over by Mrs. Justice Penley, the drama builds to a climactic moment, promising a twist that will likely unravel hidden truths and intensify the moral and ethical dilemmas faced by the characters. This setup hints at a gripping exploration of family dynamics, medical ethics, and the pursuit of justice amidst personal turmoil.
