LO1 P2 - Describe the focus of a chosen radio station unit 14

 BBC Radio 4 is a public radio station which broadcasts speech with information. It includes many speeches including drama, comedy, readings, factual and magazines programmes. BBC Radio 4 has been on air since 30 September 1967, which means it's been on air for over 57 years. The owner of BBC radio 4 is BBC itself since it's a public service. BBC radio 4 is funded by TV licences since it's on television, radio and online services. 

The demographics of BBC radio 4 are:

• Age - 55 years and older. This is because BBC radio 4 mainly has content for the older generation for an example news, current affairs, drama and cultural programming. 

• Gender - Male and Female (for all genders). This is because there is something for everyone, there is a whole hour dedicated for woman and it's called woman hour. (talks about woman issues they face in the world) and for males they have content dedicated to them shipping forecast. Since majority of males go do sailing.

• Nationality - For people who are British, live in the UK. The shipping forecast is based in the UK and BBC radio 4 also has a UK weather update. 

• Religion - Orthodox Christians this is because on BBC radio 4 they have a prayer of the day which has prayers from the bible. 

• Ethnicity - White people this is because majority of the presenters have a British accent and is very posh. Each of the photos of each presenter is white. 

Lifestyle:

There is plenty of different lifestyles of the people who listen to BBC radio 4. BBC radio 4 has something for everyone. A posh audience who owns a boat has something just for them. One example the programme shipping forecast is for people who are going to go sail on a boat before that they need to make sure everything is safe for that. The wind is right for them otherwise it could be extremely dangerous. This is something the audience who owns a boat would add to their lifestyle. Before sailing they'd listen to it. 

Spending power:

 People who listen to BBC radio 4 are mostly from the social economic group ABC1. This is because all the programmes on BBC radio 4 have shown that it has more factual information.  ABC1 people tend to have more of an education and hold good positions in their careers. They have also completed higher education e.g. university.

The total of hours that were listened per week were 116,503,000. As we can see majority of the listeners were adults as well. We are able to see the total number of listeners which is the most import for advertising.

Structure of BBC Radio 4 schedules:

As we can see early in the morning (during the night) the first programme is Shipping Forecast. This is so that all the people who are ready to use their boat they can find the perfect time for the day to use their boat since most sailors use their boats early in the morning. 

During the morning around 9am there is a woman hour which is dedicated for woman power and anything that is relevant to them. This is since in the morning people are going to work and when the main target audience for this broadcast is woman, since they'll feel a sense of being in the correct place when working due to a lot of discrimination.

Throughout the middle of the day we have a weather podcast. This is so that the viewers will know what type of weather will be happening for the rest of the day, so it can prepare them for when leaving working. Incase it's raining they may need an umbrella. This being in the middle of the day indicates it may be a break for the audience when listening. 

At the end of the day what is shown is deep topics on many things scubas the "Archive on 4" is about politics. This reason for this, this is the time where people can sit down relax and do some thinking and listen to thing they may want more knowledge of and enjoy.
